Where It All Started
The Bellard name has been part of South Louisiana's food industry for generations. In 1964, A.C. Bellard founded Bellard's Poultry in Opelousas with a straightforward purpose: bring the freshest, highest quality chicken to the restaurants, grocery stores, food trucks, and families that make Acadiana what it is.
From the beginning, it was a family operation in every sense of the word. At one point, all seven of A.C.'s siblings worked alongside him, building something that went well beyond a business. Bellard's became a legacy, one built on early mornings, honest work, and a genuine commitment to putting out the best product on the market.
A.C.'s drive didn't stop with poultry. Over the years, he and his brothers expanded into several other Louisiana food businesses, including Mama's Fried Chicken, Eunice Poultry, and Lake Charles Poultry. He later acquired Targil Butcher Supplies and Seasoning, deepening the Bellard family's roots in the Louisiana food world.
A Legacy Passed Down
Family has always been the foundation of everything at Bellard's. A.C.'s son, Tim Bellard, took the reins as second-generation owner and operator, running the business for 30 years and carrying forward the same standards his father set from day one.
Today, Devin Bellard leads the company as the third generation of Bellard ownership. His father, Rodney Bellard, spent over 40 years working in the business, making sure the quality and customer care that Bellard's built its reputation on never slipped. That kind of continuity is rare, and it shows in every product that leaves our facility.
Processing, Wholesale, and Retail in Opelousas
Bellard's Poultry has grown alongside the communities we serve. Today, we process and deliver fresh chicken throughout Acadiana, supply wholesale accounts across the region, and operate a retail storefront right here in Opelousas where anyone can walk in and shop directly with us.
We also partially debone whole fryers for customers who want to stuff and sell them, a specialty service that sets us apart.
Why South Louisiana Keeps Choosing Bellard's
Plenty of places sell chicken. Not many cut it fresh every morning, make their own boudin and sausage by hand, and have done it under the same family name for three generations. That is the difference people taste, and it is why cooks across Acadiana keep coming back.
We keep the list short and the quality high. No mystery ingredients, no shortcuts on the cut. Whether you are feeding your family on a weeknight or stocking a restaurant kitchen, you get the same fresh product and the same straight answers from the people behind the counter.
